What you resist will persist
Hi !
How are you just like the greatest gymnast (woman or man) to compete?
The quick answer is you are both human beings.
Yes, she is (very
likely) a more decorated athlete than you are, but you both have memories, feelings, and have gone through some adversity in your lives.
I recently watched "Simone Biles Rising", which documents part of her journey in gymnastics and life.
During the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, she had to pull out of the competition due to a case of "the twisties", when a gymnast's body-brain disconnects and he/she loses sense of space during flips.
Biles pushed herself through life, achieving and achieving.
But her "stuff" eventually caught up to her.
This is how you are just like her-
if you keep pushing yourself through life and don't fully (or at all) address the challenging experiences and relationships you had in the past, they will turn into something that will grab your attention.
Your body eventually will show you
with:
nagging injuries and pain
illnesses
ailments, as "the twisties" did for Biles
Your "stuff" shows up in not so great ways in your most intimate relationships, leading to unhealthy communication patterns and other behaviors.
And of course it has an effect on your performance, whether it's as a leader, an athlete, or other professional.
Spoiler alert- through time off and work with a therapist, Biles was able to connect that what she experienced in Tokyo was rooted in past trauma and other personal issues.
As you might have noticed, if you watched gymnastics at this
year's Olympic games, she showed up empowered and enjoying her experience to the fullest.
The result? Four more medals.
While I cannot guarantee you Olympic medals if you
"do the work" as Biles did, I can tell you that you will find yourself healthier and feeling better, less stressed when dealing with what life throws at you, and with more harmonious relationships.
Your sense of awareness and consciousness is your super-power and the only way to increase it is to face yourself and know you
can change with support.
It is SO worth it!
