Using your false-self to boost your results
Hi !
It's my theory that most people in the world want to "do better" with many aspects of life.
I find it hard to believe that there are very many people out there who are completely satisfied with all aspects of their lives and are not striving to improve themselves in some
manner.
Since you are reading this and on my mailing list, I imagine you want more out of yourself and/or wish to bring out more in others so they can excel.
A massive
step to unlocking more potential is getting to know and be honest with yourself on a deeper level and knowing how to use all the parts of you to your advantage.
Your ego, aka false self, is a part of you that holds you back tremendously.
It impacts your relationships, your ability to succeed and grow in a healthy manner, and your physical, mental, and emotional health.
It is a part of you that you cannot get rid of.
At best, you can learn to manage it.
However glum this news may appear, there is a bright side.
Your shadow side can be a catalyst for success if you know how to use it to your advantage.
The first step is to be aware and honest when your false-self steps into the spotlight.
It's hard to do in the moment when you're spun up and takes practice just like anything else.
A hack is to tune into the feelings that come from your ego-
shame, guilt, fear, pride, and anger are primary ones.
If you are prepared and willing to do so, the shift happens with increasing these two forces:
Discipline and Intensity
Try meditating and ask yourself/spirit to open the field of both.
Those two mentalities either make or break any
athlete.
A lot of players, especially at the highest level of sports, are great at raising their level of intensity when the stakes of competition are high.
Competitiveness,
aggressiveness, persistence, strong work-ethic, and determination are all parts of this aspect and are very much needed to excel.
Quite simply put, low level of intensity is guaranteed to lead to less success, especially against a good or great opponent and a high level is very beneficial.
However, lack of discipline can lead to disastrous performances, no matter how much intensity there is.
Focus, concentration, composure, presence (down to the millisecond), respect for yourself and
your opponent, and doing what is best for the team in each moment are absolutely necessary to optimize potential and success.
It's essential to increase both of these powerful forces in order to flourish.
A team with pride creates a strong connection, but without discipline leads to arrogance, selfish play, players trying to do too much at the wrong times, and destroys the culture of a group....it just takes one to do massive damage.
Anger ignites intensity
but without discipline easily leads to playing out of control and costly mistakes, usually at the worst times of competition.
Fear can be a great catalyst to increase preparation and focus, however without intensity, individuals and teams will freeze, especially in big competitions and against stronger
opponents.
I refer to the balance of these energies as "Composed Intensity".
The intention to use the false-self to propel you to takes discipline.
The more disciplined you are in your life, the easier it is to shift.
The more you already know and embody the energy that you deserve more in life, no matter if it's in the athletic world
or not, the more you will do the things that are good for you, even though part of you might not want to.
